Jin Dong Fu launches a short video to celebrate its 40th Anniversary

In the grand dinner held on Monday 28 June 2010, Jin Dong Fu invited MP for Marine Parade GRC (Mounbatten Constituency), Mr. Lim Biow Chuan to launch the release of this special Video on Jin Dong Fu's 40 years of history.

With the a burst of paper confetti, the three screens in the tentage came alive with the video which gave a every impressive introduction.

Mr. Lim Biow Chuan autographed a copy of the DVD pack and was immediately auctioned for S$1,500 which was for the Scholarship Fund.

Bu Yun (Luck Blessing) @ Jin Dong Fu

On Sunday, 27 Jun 2010, Jin Dong Fu has its Bu Yun session presided and conducted by the Second Brother of Jin Mian Da Ren. There was a long queue of devotees waiting to have their luck and fortune blessed by Jin Mian Da Ren. At the same time, their ill-luck were taken away.

Devotees came in extended families. Where members of the families were not able to make it, they brought along their clothing so that they were not missed out.

Shan Cai Tong Zi came to send off Jade Emperor

On 26 Jun 2010, Shan Cai Tong Zi came to lead the devoteeship to send off Jade Emperor. Dressed in his best with new pants and a golden vest, he was greeted by his devotees.

Ever playful, he was enjoying the attention, at the same time leading the congregation in seeking permission to send off the Jade Emperor. There were lions and dragon to lead the contingent. Three Taoist Priests were also present to seek petitions to the Gods.

Jin Dong Fu celebrates its 40th Anniversary

On 24th June, 2010 night, Jin Dong Fu 金洞府 started the celebrations with the traditional and customary setting up of the "temple space" in the tentage near to Blk.36 Cassia Crescent.

On this night, the Second Brother of the Sworn Brothers of Jin Mian Da Ren 金面大人 (Kim Bin Dai Lin) came. He led the temple members and devotees in inspecting the tentage and "setting" up the tentage (an tua 安坛) to ensure that the entire space is protected by the celestial armies.

Jin Dong Fu works with Mountbatten Comcare in giving out goody bags 02 Feb 10

Jin Dong Fu, in collaboration with Mountbatten Comcare to organise this Charity Event where Ang Pows worth $60 NTUC vouchers & $40 cash and Goodies bags given to the 100 residents living in the Mountbatten Constituency. For Families with children, there are also $20 worth of popular bookstore vouchers.

Mr Lim Biow Chuan, MP for Marine Parade GRC (Mountbatten Constituency) is the Guest-of-Honour (Top, right corner). He distributed the red packets and goodies bags. The event is held at Blk 51 Old Kallang Airport Market Level 2 at 7.30 pm, this is a multi-racial and multi-religious event which include non-chinese families (Malays and Indians) and also involves two different religious organisations, namely Jin Dong Fu Temple and St. Hilda's Community Services.

Good work, everybody ! This is a successful event. Finally, "Jin Dong Fu, HUAT ah !!!

Jin Dong Fu's Packing of Goodies Bags on 01 Feb 10

These are the items that Jin Dong Fu's members and helpers are going to pack for 100 low-income families... which include Milo, 5kg Rice, biscults, canfoods, maggi mee, oil and etc.

The smiles on the volunteers' faces while packing the items ..... this is also what we always like to say "The Joy of care and share ".....

In the midst of packing, the volunteers are concentrating of the items that they are in-charge....

Our group photo after a few hours of smooth & fun during the packing ...... Thanks to all the volunteers that have participated in this charity event .... and "Huat ah" to everyone !!!!

Preparing for yewkeng

On Saturday, 21 Jun 08, Jin Dong Fu prepared for its first night yewkeng. It was to be a trip to seven of its devotees' homes.

From 2pm or so, preparations were already underway. The lion and dragon dances arrived. So, were the special Tek-Kor (Bamboo Percussions used to accompany Tua Ya Pek - Da Ye Bo). There was also the Kong-Kuan (Drum, Cymbal and Gong troupe).

Tua Ya Pek led the contingent in the yewkeng (procession). The yewkeng started at about 4.30pm and came back at about 11pm.

Jin Mian Da Ren unveiled

On the an-tua (consecration) night of the tentage on 17 Jun 08 at Cassia Crescent, the four sworn brothers (ong-yahs) of Kim Min Dai Lin (Jin Mian Da Ren) was unveiled. Two sets of the four statues of the four Deities were placed on the altar.

On this evening, Jin Mian Da Ren came consecrate the four statues of Jin Mian Da Ren and the three other sworn brothers. Then, he returned and the second Brother came to "an" the tentage.

In this first celebration of the year 2008 (Jin Dong Fu has two celebrations every year) to celebrate in honour of Shan Cai Tong Zi, seven new statues have been added to the vast collections of statues that you will be able to see at the celebrations in a tentage off Cassia Link.

This year marks the 38th anniversary of the founding of Kim Dong Hu (Jin Dong Fu). And in celebrating in honour of San Cai Tong Zhi from 1M21 to 1M28, the highlight will be a grand yewkeng.

MP Lim Biow Chuan GOH in Dinner for Senior Citizens

This evening, Jin Dong Fu organised a dinner for some 300 senior citizens of Mountbatten and the neighbouring areas that stretch to Hougang and Bedok, supported by the Lions Club of Singapore Amber and the Old Airport Residents' Committee. The Guest of Honour was Mr. Lim Biow Chuan, MP for Marine Parade GRC.

The senior citizens, most of whom are probably in their seventies, spoke mainly dialects and Lion Club members, RC members and Jin Dong Fu members were on hand to chat with them and to serve them food. Even the youngest members of Jin Dong Fu chip in their bit.

The ladies were tickled with delight seeing this young boy passing to them servettes. He was doing his job conscientiously. Ah, the link between the elderly and the young.

For some of the senior citizens who are familiar with the Chinese temples, they went to the main tentage to pay their respects to the Deities and to look at the amazing array of Deities.

At the end of the, each guest was also given a token goody bag consisting of rice, cup-noodles and other goodies.

Zhong Tan Yuan Shuai 中坛元帅 comes visiting

Despite the light drizzle this evening, devotees of Jin Dong Fu gathered at the celebration tentage. It's the day of the celebration week that is probably the most exciting one for the kids. It's crossing the PingAn Bridge time.

In the early part of the evening, there was a ritual of Li Dou (pai tao). Immediately after that, the Taoist Priests started the necessary preparation for the crossing of the PingAn Bridge, by "setting" up the bridge and clearing the way.

While this was going on, Tiong Tua Guan Shuei (Zhong Tan Yuan Shuai) arrived in the midst of the drums and gongs. Tonight, the oldest of the drummers could be in late fifties or even sixties and the youngest, possibly 5? It's the 4th generation, I was told. The temple is assured of continuity for the kimkor twee (percussion group).

The Tiong Tua that arrived was a young one and so, the devotees just loved teasing him and he them. He also blessed the bridge before following the lead Taoist Priest in the crossing of the bridge, with the devotees, with each group according to the order of the animals depicting each of the 12 year cycle. It was not only fun time for the kids, but for the adults too. Each animal group was trying to outdo the other in yelling "huat ah" the loudest.

As each person came down from the bridge, he or she had to "pay" a bridge toll and then, were blessed by Tiong Tua with a dab of red link on the forehead and a stamp of the temple seal on the back of the t-shirt/blouse.

After the 12 animals had been called, there was a grand finale with everyone crossing one more time. And then, it was "makan" (eating) time with Tiong Tua giving each person a red egg. There was more than enough to share and so, many came back for more.

While the kids were happy munching the hardboiled red eggs, the adults were more interested in chatting with Tiong Tua. They urged him to demonstrate some of his gungfu skills, which he obliged.

Wu Bao Bo Ye 吴包伯爷 comes to Jin Dong Fu

This evening, Wu Bao Bo Ye 吴包伯爷 arrived in Jin Dong Fu to lead in the fund raising for the coming Dinner to be held for the senior citizens on Sunday evening (1Jul07) at 7pm. Devotees and the Getai (variety show) audience enthusiastically responded the call to do their bit. As the singers of the Getai sang to entertain Bao Bo Ye, devotees and audience lined up to do their bit by contributing towards the charity course. In return, they got an angpow, a huat kueh and a blessing by Bao Bo Ye.

While the rest of the audience continued watching the Getai, with the crowd spilling into the spare tentage (for the grand dinner on Saturday) and almost to the five-foot-way, Wu Bao Bo Ye led the rest of his devotees back to the main tentage to Bu Yun (Por Un in Hokkien). They followed him around the tentage as well as crossing the bridge, cleansing themselves with "flower water" before crossing and then with the fumes from the joss-urns after crossing.

To some lucky fellas, Bao Bo Ye gave gold coins (Singapore S$1 coins) to them.

After another round of enjoying the Getai, Bao Bo Ye came back to the tentage to partake fried beehoon (rice vermicelli) specially prepared for him. Having taken that and blessed the food, the beehoon were shared with the devotees.

Bidding farewell to a happy crowd, he then took his leave.

Jin Mian Da Ren 金面大人 "an" the Tentage

Tonight, Jin Mian Da Ren 金面大人 arrived to "an" (set up) the tentage, launching the week-long celebrations in honour of Jin Mian Da Ren. As is the tradition with Jin Dong Fu 金洞府, Jin Mian Da Ren will arrive on the first evening to "an" the tentage and consecrate the Statues for worship.

This celebration saw another few more new statues being consecrated, of which the biggest must be the 8-foot-tall bronze Monkey God. The others included the Black Face Monkey God, the Sea Dragon Gods, Sea Dragon Third Prince and one of the Tiger Gods.

When he arrived, Jin Mian Da Ren would perform the mortification of burning his body with joss-sticks.

Thereafter, he went throughout the tentage perimeter as well as to the sections containing the different Deities to consecrate them and to setup "camp" of the celestial armies.
Jin Mian Da Ren normally only arrives on the first day of the celebrations. As this celebration is in honour of him, he will come again.

Tomorrow night, Wu Bao Bo Ye 吴包伯爷 will arrive.

With only finishing touches, the tentage at Cassia Crescent, off Guillemard Rd, is almost ready to receive the Deities tomorrow. Now that it is taking place right in the heart of the Old Kallang Airport kampung, where Jin Dong Fu (Kim Tong Hu) started (at Jln Lima), it was like a homecoming.

People in the neighbourhood have begun to pop by to look and admire the large statues of the Deities, some are larger than life.

There are more additions this year and for the regular visitors to Jin Dong Fu's celebrations, it would be fun to spot the new additions, which should not be difficult. This twice-a-year celebrations is a great opportunity for all to get to know the Deities of the Heavens, Seas and the Underworld.

Tomorrow at 8pm, Kim Min Dai Lin (Jin Mian Da Ren) will come to "set" (an) the tentage for the celebration.

On 1st July at 6.30pm, Our temple is very honour to invite Mr Lim Biow Chuan, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC, to grace this event. This event is also supported by the Lions Club of Singapore Amber.

Dinner will be served for about 240 senior citizens, ang pow & goodies bag will also be given to the senior citizens by Mr Lim.

Celebrations of Jin Mian Da Ren's Birthday

Opening Ceremony will be held on the 27th June, Wednesday at 9pm. Jin Mian Da Ren 金面大人 will be present to start off the whole series of celebrations.

There will be "Blessing of Good Luck" ceremony by "Wu Bao Bo Ye" 吴包伯爷 on 28th June at 7pm. At 12am, there will be a "Welcome" Ceremony for "Yu Huang Shang Di" 玉皇上帝.

"Sending off Ceremony" of "Yu Huang Shang Di" 玉皇上帝 on 29th June at 1pm followed by "The Crossing of the Peace and Longevity Bridge" by "Zhong Tan Yuan Shuai" 中坛元帅 at 8pm.

"Luck Blessing Ceremony" by Jian Mian Da Ren 金面大人 on 1st July at 12pm.

"Sending off" Ceremony for deities by Jian Mian Da Ren金面大人 on 3rd July at 9pm.

Yu Huang San Tai Zi visits

(11Mar07) This evening, crossing the PingAn (Bridge of Peace) was a little different. As the Taoist Priests prepare the PingAn Bridge for the crossing, Yu Huang San Tai Zi arrived, for the first time in this sintua.

When he arrived, he joined the Taoist Priest in leading the temple devotees in crossing the Bridge of Peace, leading a group born under each Chinese Lunar Year Animal at a time, starting with the Rat, then, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Cockeral, Dog and finally the Pig. And then, all of the devotees formed a line again to walk around the temple tentage and crossed the bridge again.

Balloons were given to the children as part of the fun for them. And after crossing the bridge, the kids were looking towards sweets, which they knew from previous years. Ah, this time, it was different. Yu Huang San Tai Zi asked that each child should write a word, and checked, before he or she could get a lollipop. It was too strong a motivation for the kids to turn down, and so, no matter how small, each kid tried to write or draw. It was indeed surprising to see most of the kids writing at least one Chinese character. Ah, maybe, the teachers can take a leaf out of this in teaching the kids Chinese. (^^)

The fun was not over yet. For the adults, Yu Huang San Tai Zi was going to give them quizzes. He started out writing a Chinese character and asked if anyone could add to come up with something meaningful. It could be a character or a picture. Those who are wrong will be "huat" (fa) (meaning penalise), which interestingly sounds the same as "huat"(fa) as in prosperity. And of course, there are paper bags of "Huat Kueh" - the traditional Chinese cake that symbolises prosperity - "huat" (fa). Which means if one answers wrongly, he or she gets the "huat kueh" but if he or she is correct, he or she gets a lollipop.

It was an evening of mental stimulations as the devotees tried to guess. A word "Tian" (as in rice field) was drawn by a devotee into a goat and another into a tortoise.

Grand Dinner

Tonight is the traditional Grand Dinner night where devotees and friends gathered to enjoy a sumptious 8-course dinner and help raise funds for the temple as well as for charity. There must have been a hundred tables of diners tonight. One of the charity events tonight was the presentation of S$1000 as aid to the recent earthquake victims in Indonesia.

As they enjoyed the dinner, which included loh-hei too, the temple auctioneers took turn to offer items, many of which were also sponsored by devotees, to the diners. Auspicious figures started spewing out from all corners of the dining tentage .. $138, $188, $328 ... and the figures kept climbing. Some higher than others.

The highlight of the auction must be the golden pig which, the auctioneer invited the Guest of Honour to write his name on the pig.

The Guest of Honour was also given a tour of the temple tentage, being introduced to the Deities of the Temple.

Er Ye Bo and Bao Beh Ya visit

This evening, at about 8pm, Er Ye Bo (Li Ya Pek) arrived to give blessings to the devotees of the temple. After making his round of the tentage, paying respects to the respective Deities, he left. And in his place, Hu Bao Beh Ya arrived.

As is the tradition of Jin Dong Fu, this year, Bao Beh Ya conducted the blessings and cleansing of the devotees. Devotees followed him through the tentage to the GeTai stage, where he offered blessings to the public who would contribute towards a charity fund. In return, they also got two oranges and a packet of rice in a very delightful packaging.

Back at the tentage, Bao Beh Ya, always smiling, led the devotees around the tentage and crossing the bridge. They even crossed over two stoves of burning charcoal, as part of the cleansing. As another part of the blessing, Bao Beh Ya used his brush to write the character "Hu" on each devotee's right palm. And then, the devotees were to take the palm to press it against his/her forehead. And then, they got a drink a cup of holy water. Those who participated in the crossing of the bridge also got a t-shirt back.

Kim Min Dai Lin arrives to "an" the Tentage

This evening, at about 9pm, Kim Min Dai Lin (Jin Mian Da Ren) arrived in the tangki (medium) to "an" (consecrate) the tentage, transforming it into a temple, marked out the perimeters of the temple with the celestial solders of the East, South, West, North and Centre (read from the Chinese aspect).

Many of the temple devotees were present to welcome the Deity and to seek advice. Kim Min Dai Lin also consecrated the new statues with the sponsors present. One could see the beaming and proud faces of the donors of the big statues .. Dragon Kings, Geok Ong Sam Tai Tsu (Yu Huang San Tai Zi), Nai He Tong Zi, Jian Li Yen and Shun Feng Er (Assistants to Mazu).

A devotee also made a normal size golden sword for Kim Min Dai Lin.

Temple Celebrations to start tomorrow

By this evening, most of the set up is in place. The empty shell of the hugh tentage is now like a temple when you walk into it. Banners were hung all across the aisle, each exorting the Deities in this temporary temple.

This year sees an addition of thirteen new statues of the Deities. They include the four Dragon Kings, the two Assistants of Mazu and Yu Huang San Tai Zi.

Tomorrow at 9pm, Jin Mian Da Ren (Kim Min Dai Lin) will come to "an" (setup) the temple and consecrate the new statues.

The place: Kallang Carpark F, near to the Kallang Theatre.

Preparation for the Big Day

The members of the Jin Dong Fu (Kim Tong Hu) are busy setting up the elaborate props in the huge tentage at Carpark F at Kallang (next to the former Kallang Theatre). Jin Dong Fu is well known for its elaborate props and set up at its festive tentage and the size of the statues of the Deities. You have to go to see to believe.

The main deity of the temple is Jin Mian Da Ren 金面大人and his three brothers. No one has seen the faces of Jin Mian Da Ren and his brothers (not even in their dreams) and so, until this day, they are only represented by a tablet.

The other deity that is actively involved in Jiu Shi (Kiu Sei 救世) is Shan Cai Tong Zi 善才童子. This celebration is in honour of Shan Cai Tong Zi, on 1M22, that is 11 Mar 07.

Jin Mian Da Ren is expected to arrive on the night (about 9pm) of 7 Mar 07 (Wed) to "an" (setup) the altars in the tentage.
